SoHo Indigo

Chuck Hill has been playing jazz in the Tampa Bay area for the past two decades, leading his own trio, Jazz Soup, performing with two big bands, Voices of Jazz and the Sounds of Swing, playing solo jazz guitar engagements, and peforming in local musical theatre productions. He studied with jazz guitarist and teacher Ted Shumate, and is an avid student of the stylings of Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, Charlie Byrd and others.

Pam Rubenstein has enjoyed singing all her life.  She learned to play guitar in her twenties, and performed in several professional duos and trios & as a solo act. She later formed “the rubensteins” with her husband, Danny, singing her all-original pop songs.  Chuck Hill joined as lead guitarist.  The trio received CL’s “Best of The Bay” award three years in a row.  Pam lost her voice for 15 years, during which time Chuck formed his own jazz trio, “Jazz Soup.“ When her voice returned, Pam & Chuck rejoined their talents as “SoHo Indigo.” Pam received an Artist's Grant from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, which helped finance the making of the duo's CD, "The Subject Is Love".

SoHo Indigo jazz duo combines the vocal prowess of Pam Rubenstein with the guitar of Chuck Hill.  The two previously performed in "the rubensteins” trio, showcasing Pam’s original, folk-pop songs, which garnered them CL’s “Best of the Bay,” three consecutive years.  Chuck went on to lead his own trio, “Jazz Soup,” and played with two local Big Bands. Pam and Chuck later rejoined their talents in "SoHo Indigo,” building a unique repertoire from classic, modern, and independent artists & writers. With effectively simple arrangements, adept vocals and fine guitar work, this makes for a highly satisfying presentation.  In concert, “less” definitely becomes “more.”
